I love you = Mo kontan twa

To say this properly, listen to the audio file below:

Some people may write this differently eg "Mo contan toi" or "Mo content toi"

Other valid phrases are:

  • Mo amoureux r twa (I'm in love with you)
  • Je t'aime (French)
  • Monn gaté r twa / Monn gate ek twa (I fell in love with you)
  • To mem mo lamour (You are my love)
In other countries, the phrase "I like you" is usually used when you want to date someone as "I love you" can be seen as coming on too strong but in Mauritius we don't have a term for "like". It's like French, "love" is used instead (hence they have "J'aime" on Facebook instead of the Like button).
